Suffolk SPCA, DA look into alleged killings of pets

The Suffolk district attorney's office and the Suffolk SPCA are investigating allegations that pets in a Selden neighborhood have disappeared and have been killed and buried in the backyard of a resident's home.
Bob Clifford, a spokesman for the district attorney's office, said Friday the office is investigating "reports of illegal activity" at the Awixa Place home.
Neither the homeowner nor anyone residing there was charged as of Friday evening.
SPCA chief Roy Gross said reports of disappearing pets are being investigated, and anyone with information should call the SPCA at 631-382-SPCA.
The SPCA was at the home Thursday night after a complaint from the animal-rescue group Rescue Ink about the condition of animals in the home, and one complaint from a neighborhood resident, Gross said.
Five dogs, a cat, a bird, and a hamster were taken from the house and were being examined Friday by veterinarians, he said. The animals were removed from the home because SPCA investigators believed they were in "imminent danger," he said.
Gross said he wouldn't comment on allegations that nearly two dozen dogs were buried in the backyard of the home.
